Picks of the Week: Feb 13 – 19, 2017

Editors choice

Oh man… we’re not doing well at getting videos or reviews out lately. Sorry guys. The vlogger/working life combo can be a bit tough, even with multiple people.

So, we at least got out 59-Second Rundown out this week, so you know what’s coming up in the UAE performing arts world this week.

Here Are Our Picks:

Critics’ Top Pick

What: West Side Story
Where: Dubai Opera, Downtown Dubai
When: Tuesday – Saturday, Feb 14 – 18, 2017 – Various Times
How Much: Starting 250 Dhs
In short: It’s a classic. And the reviews have been great from all around this tour.

Best Afternoon Out:

What: Short+Sweet Wildcards
Where: The Junction, Alserkal Avenue, Dubai
When: Saturday,  Feb 18 – 2:30pm
How Much: 100 Dhs (student and child discounts available)
In short: While last week’s Wildcards was more “eh” then “whoa”, the first week was really a great time. It’s a mixed bag of variety and quality, with short plays directed in experimental or new ways. Some hit, some miss, but the letting go and having fun with it is key.

Best on a Budget:

What: Festival of World Music Day 2 – Dakhabrakha / Dengue Fever / Red Baraat
Where: NYU Abu Dhabi Arts Center
When: Friday,  Feb 17 – 6:00pm
How Much: Free
In short: A mix of weird music and dance… definitely a bit out there, but it’s free and will be interesting for sure.

Best Night Out with Friends:

There are a bunch of comedy events this week that would all fall under this category. No specific picks.

Best Date Night

What: Valentine’s Improv: Lost in Translation
Where: The Courtyard Playhouse, Al Quoz, Dubai
When: Monday – Wednesday, Feb 13-15 – 8:00pm
How Much: Free (with expected donation)
In short: Courtyard’s got great improv events. It is hard to say what to expect… it’s improv. Just prepare to laugh.
